ICZM Plans of Action in the Mediterranean Area

In the framework of the EU SMAP III Programme (Short and Medium-term Priority Environmental Action Programme) EUCC is leading the project CAP Nador (Coastal Action Plan for Nador) launched in Morocco earlier this year. This 3 years project is being implemented in cooperation with three Moroccan organisations, the École Nationale Forestière d’Ingénieurs (ENFI), the Commune of Boudinar, and the NGO Forum d'urbanisme, d'environnement et de développement (FUED).

The overall goal is to promote sustainable development in the coastal area of the province of Nador through the establishment of Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plans of Action in three selected pilot sites, namely the Nador Lagoon, the Rural Commune of Boudinar and Cap the Tres Forcas. The Action Plan is being drawn up with coastal experts and interest groups viz. fishermen, farmers, teachers, NGO representatives and governmental institutions.

In Egypt EUCC is partner to another SMAP III project, ALAMIM, lead by the MedCities Secretariat (Barcelona). This project aims to establish an integrated management system for Lake Maryut in Alexandria, an area of tremendous anthropogenic pressure. Strategic participatory planning and capacity building are in the core of both projects.
