Poland Oder Delta Nature Park (1995 - present)

The EUCC and its national branch, EUCC - Poland, hope to establish and publicly announce the establishment of an Oder Delta Nature Park in October 2005. Both parties have been working for the last eight years in several strategic locations in the Delta. In this area, there are more White-tailed eagles than anywhere else in Europe. This rare bird of prey will be further protected by the establishment of what will be the first private protected Nature Park in Poland. It will incorporate the development of a management plan and vision for the whole Oder Delta. The whole area of 2000 ha is also a proposed Natura 2000 site.

The involvement of local and regional stakeholders throughout this process has been vital to its success. One of the aims has always been to establish to both government and the local population that sound economical development and nature conservation can go hand by hand. Aspects of both sustainable tourism and ecological farming have demonstrated that biodiversity conservation can also result in a sustainable rural development. The Nature Park should, therefore, act as a catalyst for other areas of outstanding beauty and natural value in Poland and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
